Ghost in the Shell – Chronological Order

Ghost in the Shell - Chronological Order

I’m a big fan of Ghost in the Shell for some time. After seeing the movies few years ago, I decided to go for it again and watch again the movies + series. But there was a problem. I had no idea how to watch Ghost in the Shell in chronological order. Should I see the movies first or the series… ? Hard question. After researching the web, I manage to find this list. So… here is how you should watch Ghost in the Shell in Chronological Order

1. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex,
>>(Ghost in the Shell S.A.C – The Laughing Man)
2. Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG,
>>(Ghost in the Shell S.A.C – Individual Eleven)
3. Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society,
4. Ghost in the Shell (movie),
5. Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.

  1. Well, I would saythe first pack of three are well ordered and the second pack of two are correct aswell but… these two packs make two alternate storylines that have no common continuity. Ghost in the shell (movie) is set on the 2029 that the manga stated as canonical, S9 fights the puppet master, and Innocence is the continuation: Human Error Processor 1.5 in terms of placement but with a case that is some kind of an adaptation of an inner case of the original manga, were Motoko was still in the section 9.

SAC is more of a “What if the S9 had never fought the puppet master in 2029-2030?” and the answer would be: Motoko kusanagi would remain in S9 in the following years to solve new cases.

  2. Thanks for this write up. I just started writing Ghost in the Shell and this would help out a lot. I haven’t seen the movie yet but it’d on my list.

  3. yah, i am a fan of ghost in the shell series and movies in the philippines, i’ve though the individual eleven, gic 1, solid state society, innocense, and soon laughing man.

  4. I have started watching this series in the order shown and the S.A.C. Snd gig seems to be the same as the Stand Alone Complex series that I had watched previously, I could be wrong but some of the episodes are the same, and it just seems a little weird…

  5. 1. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex,
    >>(Ghost in the Shell S.A.C – The Laughing Man) are the same thing just like the 2nd gig n the in 11 thing. its a later adapted for tv movie that just follows only the episodes that involved either the laughing man or the individual 11. so if u watch gits sac series you have watched the laughing man and then some so its your decision if u want to “rewatch” it so to speak
